Look into the mirror, tell me what you see
The pain you were avoiding, is fading to a dream
And bottled up inside you, the loneliness and rage
You see a soul imprisoned, a bird within a cage
A boat upon the water, adrift without a sail
Looking for the answer, looking for the way
Living in a prison, searching for a key
Something to believe in, to end this misery
Oh, don't walk away, don't think it's over
Baby let me push the pain and loneliness away, forever
I'll be here for you.
I'll be the one who cares for you, I'll be your only (I will be here)
I'll be the one who is around for you to hold you (woah, ho)
I'll be the one who cares for you, I'll be your only (I will)
I'll be the one who is around for you to hold you
Standing at a crossroad, you must choose a path
Praying for an answer, looking for a sign
Looking for commitment, searching for your life
Maybe there was something, but something isn't right
Maybe I can help you, oh give me a chance
Maybe I could show you something that will last
A genuine affection, a love that is for life
I can end the darkness, and take you to the light
Oh, don't walk away, just give me my chance
Baby let me push the pain and loneliness away, forever
I'll be here for you.
I'll be the one who cares for you, I'll be your only (oh)
I'll be the one who is around for you to hold you (I'll be here)
I'll push the pain away when life begins again (Woah oh)
I will be there when no one else is there for you (I will)
I'll be the one when you need someone just to hold you (I will be here)
I'll be the one who is around for you to hold you (Woah oh)
I'll be the one who cares for you, I'll be your only (I will)
I'll be the one who is around for you to hold you (I will)
I'll be the one who cares for you, I'll be your only (Woah oh)
I'll be the one who is around for you to hold you (I'll be here)
I'll push the pain away when life begins again (Woah oh)
I will be there when no one else is there for you
Anyone who has ever dealt with clinical depression probably knows exactly what this is about.
I knew a girl who was on Prozac, and also drinking a lot. The combination was toxic, and the things I saw her do still boggle my mind. Like having sex in a room full of people with a neighbor while her boyfriend was sleeping down the hall...
Anyway, this was written during a time when I actually thought I could be there for her... but she soon made it very clear there was no interest.
